so glad I did! It's true that it makes a screeching sound if you don't lube up the metal part before using it. After that the noise (nails on a chalkboard) goes away and leaves fresh, perfect OJ in its place! I didn't even bother with the included strainer, but I bought one that fits over the mixer bowl and it catches the seeds and pulp. I did not have any trouble with the process being messy or juice running down my arm, but of course a little bit is going to get on your fingers. What do you expect? It's not really a big deal to me, and like I said, it could barely be considered a mess. I squeezed juice for the first time and my only real complaint was the screeching noise. This was a great addition to my collection of kitchen toys and very easy to use. It does take awhile to get an 8 oz. glass of juice, three oranges to be exact (small ones) and I plan on squeezing a whole bag or two next time and freezing it like another user suggested. Overall a great product.
This item is easily attaches and can turn a tree full of Oranges into Juice in a few hours. Works well, as with all juicers there is screen cleaning to be done regularly as you go through the stack of fruit. Works easily as well with Grapefruit or lemons.
No issue with getting the juice from any item. The only minor issue is the outer section should be a little bit larger, it does not capture the juice if it sprays from the item.
I'm so happy to have this product and to give my KA Stand Mixer a chance to work for me! It is easy to install and allows me to "juice" favorite citrus so much easier than my little hand operated squeezer. It was a much more reasonable price than the other more sophisticated juicers advertised, so I was glad to get it and look forward to using it more as time goes on. I remember watching my mother use the juicing contraption that came with her Sunbeam Mixmaster when I was just a small child and always wanted something like that for "myself" someday.....now I do!
I have used various hand and electric juicers in the past, and none has worked any better than this one. It is a bit noisy and the supplied pulp filter needs to be supplemented with a secondary filter after squeezing. This is more than offset by ease of use and cleaning.
If you already own/are planning on buying a kitchen aid stand mixer and you squeeze citrus, this is a very worthwhile investment.
It gets alot of juice out of the citrus compared to other hand squeezed juicers and citrus press but the juice tends to slide down your wrist and arm. Also holding the citrus up is hard on the wrist and arms, so not a great solution if you like to juice a pitcher worth at a time. The upside is, it's not another small appliance so if you have someone who will juice for you or if you don't juice often, then this product is for you.
I used this item to juice tangerines and it was great. I could adjust the speed and it doesn't stop like the regular juicers. It was fast and a little messy at the beginning. As other reviewers said, if you keep your fingers pointing up, it gets better. The only downside is that it gets a bit tiring for the arm but it's good exercise!
I've had many citrus juicers over the years, and have never been able to juice oranges as fast as I can using this attachment.
Yes, I think the pulp screen is a nuisance (that's the only reason I gave 4 instead of 5 stars). So I skipped using the pulp screen, juiced into a large bowl and then poured the contents through a kitchen strainer. Works like a charm!
I didn't have any problems with juice running down my arm. Maybe because I was holding the oranges on an angle.
I bought this for my husband who has the largest mixer, the Professional Series, and really wanted to start using it for more than mixing. He mentioned this attachement as the one he wanted most, so he got it for Christmas. He has used it for oranges and grapefruit, and loves it.
I used this attachment for the first time today, and I have to say it worked amazingly well. I had no problem with juice splatter or dripping down my arm, it's all in the technique. My only problem was that it wasn't large enough to handle my extra large "Mutant Lemons". I mean the ones that are the size of a toddler's head. For these, it took a lot of work to get all of the lemon juiced, and several times emptying the strainer. That said, for my normal lemons, and the grapefruit sized lemons, it worked perfectly.
I would suggest juicing into a pitcher, rather than a batter bowl as I did, to minimize splash even more. I think you will be quite pleased with this product, I certainly am.
