Customer Buzz
Press received with loose allen screw in packaging.

Terrible assembly job, all components attached to column not aligned.

After disassembling and reassembling to correct the alignment, the juicer is really quite nice.

I give it * * * * stars after the fix.

Customer Buzz
I couldn't be happier with the OrangeX mid-size commercial juicer. It is very well made, sturdy, and well worth the price. Just one pull down on the lever, and you you extract 99% of the juice. I had originally purchased a juicer half the price of the OrangeX, and found this product is well worth the additional cost.

Customer Buzz
This juicer is exactly as advertised. It does all it needs to and more. It fits perfectly on the countertop, doesnt topple over even with grapefruit. Great product, accept no imitations as you may find elsewhere.

Customer Buzz
I've owned this juicer for over 5 years and it works like a charm for extracting juice from large quantities of limes, lemons or oranges. It is heavy and solidly built, and the lever action runs right through the center of the juicer so no problems with tipping. Not much effort required to get the handle all the way down, which extracts all the juice. If you want to get every last drop, rotate the fruit 1/4 turn and press again, but you get about 95% on the first squeeze. The only down side is the that it is large, heavy and bulky. It would be best if you have the counter space to leave it out all the time. I don't, so it probably gets less use than it otherwise would as I have to haul it out of the cupboard every time. It might work well in an appliance garage too.

Customer Buzz
This mid-sized Orange-X juicer is a well designed heavy duty juicer that should last a lifetime. It is easy to use and clean and it is powerful enough to be used both commercially and at home.

Some may quibble over whether one juicer is better for oranges or lemons. From reading reviews, one that may be a little better for lemons, or grapefruit probably doesn't do as well with oranges etc due to only one strainer cup size being available. This very heavy duty juicer did a great job for me with lemons, oranges, and small grapefruit. It seems to be optimized for oranges though. However, I use it primarily for lemons and have had no problems except a very tiny bit of the lemon left on the side. I feel the claims about it not working well with lemons are grossly exaggerated and inaccurate.

This juicer has a stainless steel juicing strainer and cup, so the health conscious have no need to worry about aluminum being leached into the acidic juice.

Contrary to what one reviewer said, you cannot hurt your fingers using this juicer as long as you put your hand on the rubber handle (it is hard to use otherwise). The handle has a nice well calibrated stoper at the bottom that keeps you from damaging the unit by over extending when pushing down and still squeezes all the juice out well. The lower push range offers superior leverage over the juicers that have a spring and leave the handle up as you start and end from a higher position with them. (However, either way, it is not going to be hard to juice with this or other heavy duty juicers such as the Hamilton Beach regardless of handle position).

The only thing I don't like about this juicer is that if you leave the handle up and try to move it, the heavy handle will fall easily and it could hit you on the head or face if you are bending over or short. It is particularly easy to have the handle fall since the suction cup feet make it a little difficult to move around and you have to pull and yank on it a bit to get it to move. I bought some standard 4mm screw on bolts and some nice non-marking rubber feet called bumpers (screw, rubber) at Ace hardware for a few dollars that fit perfect into the holes for the screw off suction cups that came with the juicer. My guess is the suction feet were meant primarily to help in a commercial environment where you always kept the juicer in the exact same position and didn't pull the juicer out then push it back on the counter when done like you might do at home. The juicer is so heavy, that even with these new non-suction non-marking rubber feet it doesn't move at all during routine juicing.

Overall, this is a very heavy duty well made and designed juicer and I recommend it for home or commercial use (it is still quit large though called mid-sized). If it were not for the annoying rubber suction cup feet that it came with (and I easily replaced) I would have given it a five star rating. OrangeX Mid-Size Commercial Juicer, White

Product Description

The orangex Company sold the Product Line to Focus Products, LLC and the products are being re-introduced with new identities. Still the pre-eminent manual citrus juicer. These commercial grade juicers are now available for home use. Fresh squeezed juice from oranges, grapefruits, pomegranates, lemons and limes is readily available with the press of the handle. The juice is sweet, as bitter rind oils are not pressed out. Made of cast iron, 18/10 stainless steel and an ergonomic rubberized handle. The Large (Olympus) is 3" taller than the Mid-Size (Jupiter) .. Cup and distance from the Cup to Base is the same on Jupiter and Olympus

Customer Buzz
This is an OK juicer. It really struggles with anything smaller than a mid-sized lemon, and a large grapefruit is not fully juiced. For the price I would have expected better performance. I wouldn't buy again but it's good enough to keep rather than return and find something else (the choices just aren't very good from what I gather).

Customer Buzz
After trying several different types of citrus juicers we have finally found what we need. This is a very well designed and constructed juicer. It is very easy to use requiring little muscle as opposed to a couple of the electric models we have tried and much easier than all the other mechanical devices we have tried. The juicer renders all the juice with very little pulp. Clean up is as they advertise, " a snap."

Customer Buzz
The juicer is good but it does not press all the juice out of the orange, grape fruit, lemon, etc... If the size of the orange is big then much of the juice is wasted. The strainer needs to be modified to extract more juice.

Customer Buzz
I purchased this juicer for my 85 year old father who had broken his 30-year old manual juicer and was unable to find another one. He is very happy with the ease of use with this juicer. It operates smoothly, completely juices an orange with just one pull, and the suction cups on the bottom hold it to the counter very tightly. At 14 pounds, it is heavy and built to last. He has now happily started juicing his fourth box of oranges. He also used this juicer on the pomegranites they grow and it worked beautifully. My father is very, very happy with this juicer and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

Customer Buzz
This mid sized Orange-X citrus juicer is a very nice heavy duty juicer that works well and is attractive on the counter. This very heavy so called mid-sized Orange-X juicer is still plenty large for commercial or home use. It is easy to use and clean.

It squeezes a variety of different sized citrus well including small grapefruit, normal sized oranges, and lemons. From reading other reviews, manufacturers apparently must make assumptions about the ideal size for the strainer cup. This juicer's strainer cup seems to be maximized for oranges. Other reports that I have read on other models, often that say they are better with lemons for instance, but then go on to say that the same juicer is less than ideal for other larger citrus such as oranges, small grapefruit, etc.

I myself have had no trouble juicing lemons at all as some others claimed. In fact, juicing lemons is primarily what I use this juicer for (it excells at oranges too). I feel those claims from others saying this juicer is not good with lemons to be exaggerated and grossly inaccurate. Perhaps some other heavy duty juicers are slightly better with lemons, but as mentioned, then they seem to get reports of not being as good with oranges, etc. This juicer squeezed my lemons out completely except for an insignificant tiny thin bit on the upper sides. Ideally, if manufacturers would make different sized strainer cups available for those whose primarily focus is on one type of citrus, but I don't see any manufacturers offering different sized straining cups as an option as of yet.

What is good about this juicer aside from being heavy duty (and plenty large by the way) and having a lifetime warranty, is that it uses a stainless strainer cup and the handle pushes all the way down when you complete your squeeze which is great for leverage. It also has a covenient well calibrated rubber stop to keep you from pressing too hard and damaging the juicer. It is impossible, by the way, to crush your fingers unless you take them off the rubber handle and grab the bare metal which would make juicing difficult anyway and is counter intuitive.

The Orange-X juicer has a stainless steel strainer cup which is superior to aluminum ones with other brands in that that you do not need to be concerned about the acidic citrus leaching the aluminum into your juice which naturally is a concern for the health conscious.

However, I have two quibbles:

1. I don't like the suction cup feet. I would like to be able to pull the juicer closer for use on the counter and push it back when done without having to pull the suction cup feet loose or yank on the juicer only to have the feet leave skid marks on the counter top which they did.

Good news though, for just a few dollars, I was able to buy some standard 4 mm screw on bolts and some non-suction non-marking replacement feet at Ace Hardware (called bumpers, part 51636, screw, rubber) that fit perfect into the hole left by the easy to screw off suction feet that came with the unit. I found that with these new feet, that the heavy juicer still stayed easily in place during juicing and it was easier to slide or pick up and move as you didn't have to break the suction on the feet (also didn't leave skid marks).

2. The heavy handle can be left up but easily falls if you try to move the juicer and could hit your head or face when it falls if you are bending over to pull on it. However, you simply need to get into the habit of puting the handle down when done and never moving the juicer when the handle is upright.

Overall, this is a very nice well designed highly functional heavy-duty juicer fit for both commercial and home use. If it were not for the annoying suction cup rubber feet, I would have given it an easy five star rating. On a positive note, as mentioned, I found quality low cost replacement feet that fit perfect and were easy to put on for only a few dollars at Ace Hardware. I fully intend to keep this juicer, would choose it again, and highly recommend it.

Customer Buzz
I bought this juicer for home use on the basis of good Amazon reviews--but only to juice lemons and limes and this review only addresses these fruits. If I didn't use a Waring twist juicer at work, I wouldn't have recognized the difference. It turns out the twist juicer definitely extracts more juice from a lemon--it breaks all the membrane and just leaves the shell--virtually dry. The press method squashes the lemon--there is still quite a bit of juice left, which I end up squezzing by hand. Also the head on the orange x is larger than the twist juicer, which may be fine for an orange, but is too large to apply equal pressure for a lemon--much less for a lime. I always end up having to reposition the lemon and press again. I e-mailed orange x before buying the juicer to ask them specifically about this--they never replied but I went ahead and bought it anyway. It looks great on the counter, and is easy to clean (but then, so is the twist juicer at work). So, think again if your main juicing needs are for lemons/limes. My three stars are only because of its disappointing performance for these fruits. It is called ORANGE x afterall!

Customer Buzz
I have owned a large Orange-X juicer for two winters, and I recently bought a mid-size juicer as a gift. I am the author of the "Best juicer, April 8, 2001" review for the large Orange-X. My Orange-X has withstood the test of time as a daily habit during orange season. Think how many kitchen appliances gather dust next to the rowing machine; daily use is the ultimate testimonial. The habit I've settled on is to rotate a bowl of several varieties of citrus into the fridge for the next glass, and squeeze one glass at a time. Cleanup is easy enough, and "just-squeezed" (as opposed to yesterday's juice in a bottle) tastes good enough, that this habit sticks.
Setting the two units next to each other, I can make some comparisons.
First, every unit has a unique personality, and some units can only fairly be classified as defective. I looked at four mid-sized units before accepting one, rejecting two as defective, and the one I accepted has definite quirks. (Hey, so do I!) This is a brilliant design, but we're not talking BMW quality control at the factory. For now, this is hands down the best lever juicer on the market, but the principle of applying leverage during a stroke can't be patentable, someone will get around the Orange-X patents with better manufacturing quality, and Orange-X will be history.
What to look for, examining a unit for defects? The base should sit squarely on the counter, not warped so only three feet touch as a time. The various assembly parts should line up vertically on the pole, so the squeezing action is "on center". The lever arm should reach a bit past vertical, so it won't come down by surprise onto your fingers. Watch the lever action very carefully. It should impress you with its beauty, not look "all twisty", and maximum leverage should occur near the very end of the stroke; too soon is a quirk.
It is obvious, mail-ordering from Amazon, that you will be studying your unit more carefully than anyone before you. You have to admire Amazon for not deleting this post. In my extensive experience with Amazon, they are dedicated to keeping satisfied customers.
Now, the differences between the sizes: Price. Weight, 16 lbs -vs- 19 lbs. Height in rest position, 16" -vs- 18 1/2". Height of handle at top of stroke, 28 3/4" -vs- 31 1/2". Maximum glass height, 4 13/16" -vs- 6 1/8". Same stroke length, 3 7/8". Same strainer basket.
In other words, the two sizes should be virtually identical in function, with the mid-size a bit less unwieldly, and an easier reach if you don't play basketball. A "jam jar" tumbler will only fit directly under the large, but most pint measuring cups fit fine under the mid-size, as do many glasses.
On the other hand, if you can put up with the price, height, and weight of the large, and you're tall enough, it may be the way to go. In some intangible way the design feels more fully expressed in the large, but the mid-size works just fine.
I found my large handles grapefruit easily, but needs a rubber shim for thin-skinned citrus. Not mashing bitter oils from the peel is an intentional design feature of the Orange-X, but the spacing is fixed, and can only be adjusted by shimming with rubber Mason jar gaskets under the strainer basket, which I sometimes do. The particular mid-size I tested requires more effort to squeeze a grapefruit, but handles thin-skinned oranges better. I believe this to be the individual personalities of the units, not a generalization that applies to mid-size -vs- large, but, heh, who knows?

Customer Buzz
I love my new OrangeX juicer. It is so easy that we have been juicing away ever since it arrived. My 5 year old daughter has really enjoyed helping me. It is currently residing on the counter since it is quite heavy to move around. We haven't had any problem with the handle staying up as long as you put it all the way up. I did have some enamel "dust" being created from where the joints were rubbing. A few well placed squirts of lubricant seems to have solved it. All in all we really like using it. I previously had one of the cheap manaul juicers (similar to the metrokane) and really had to bear down to get the juice out. The OrangeX is so easy and doesn't require much pressure at all. The lever action really does the work for you. It is in a different league all together. The juice has plenty of pulp for my taste and of course it tastes great with no bitterness.

Customer Buzz
I was very disappointed with the quality of the juicer I purchased. The handle would not stay up and it was easy to crush your fingers, bad if young children were using it. The top would not stay in. The rubber feet left black marks on the formica (poor quality rubber). I sent mine back for refund. E-mailed the company but they would not respond, sign of a poor company!

Customer Buzz
Orange X is a company known for its excellence in quality and performance. Although I would be frustrated if my Orange-X broke on me and the manufacturer doesn't do a thing about it (commenting on the previous review), I still think this is a product worth investing in if you like cool gagdets and prefer regular OJ without the bits. This OrangeX machine is definitely designed to be ergonomically correct as well as being reliable and able to take on commercial abuses.
There's no doubt the construction of the machine is extremely durable. Although I'm sure like the previous reviewer commented on, there are exceptions but with every product there's always one that's a lemon.
The last thing I want people to know is that although this "type" of juicer looks cool and is extremely durable, a juicer that twists the fruit rather than putting pressure downward onto the fruit gets more juice out of the fruit.
To add to that, the twisting motion for other juicers also allows bits of the fruit to be seperated and thus gives you the option of having the bits put into the juice- like having grovestand instead of original.
So the conclusion about getting this juicer should be more of whether you want to sacrifice a bit of performance for the cosmetics. Personally, I don't mind sacrificing some performance for a gain in coolness and for additional conversation topics. But then again, I have a twist type juicer at home... but to avoid my hypocryticalness, I'm planning on getting this type of juicer soon. =)
