I bought this before I realized that it will only work with oranges or other CITRUS with a strong skin. What I actually want to buy is a juicer that is good for all kinds of fruits. Indeed for lemons you dont need a machine but just squeeze with fingers. I tried to put the empty skin of an orange on top of a half apple and use the machine, but got only little juice. This machine will not work for "hard" fruits, even not for pears. But as to its designed function it is very good. I can imagine it being used for a family party where people sip slowly while talking.
Hope they will have better design to cover other fruits. I like manual juicer as the electronic ones will be harmful for the nutritions.
Why change a good thing - this is the juicer my family had when I was a kid. Now my family has it too (and my son loves to help squeeze.) I have frequently given it as gift, and everyone raves.
My only caveat is that this is not the juicer for you if you want pulpy juice.
I purchased 2 for myself and 1 as a gift. This product is well made and easy to clean. Keep in mind it is tall and won't fit on your counter top under most cabinets. Don't waste your money on cheaper models!
We have two mature citrus trees: one juice orange and one white grapefruit. Both produce more fruit than you can believe. We purchased this Hamilton Beach juicer to try and deal with the sheer volume of citrus we have and then freeze the juice.
The juicer performs marvelously. It is unbelievable how much juice comes out of each piece of fruit with little effort and how little waste is left behind. Seeds and most pulp are trapped, but yet the device doesn't clog. Clean up is quick and easy, too. The juicer has a nice, solid feel. The only problem is the size for storage ... it does take up some room.
We are very happy with this purchase.
This is an easy to use juicer that extracts virtually all of the available juice from citrus fruits including small to medium grapefruits. Highly recommended.
Item came very quickly. The juicer does the best job of juicing oranges of any juicer I have tried (about 6). This juicer will last longer than many of the others due to the way it is built. It does allow pulp through which I would prefer not happening (I know it's good for you but it makes me gag). Having mentioned gagging, the pulp that does come through is tolerable. Very, Very easy to clean. It is definitely a keeper.
PS. I do not think it would juice grapefruit very well since on larger oranges, the bottome portion does not get squeezed completely and grapefruits are even larger. I'm fine because I only wanted it for oranges. Hope this helps
It's got that kooky retro, somewhat awkward shape that's a few inches too tall for most counters with cabinets above. School cafeteria-like heavy plastic parts and a solid feeling mechanism. Can't knock the friendly, quiet, non-electric connectedness to physically hand pressing your citrus. But beware GRAPEFRUITS of standard size DO NOT EASILY FIT into the juicer. And even small ones take a bit of fiddling to not have the juice run outside the strainer. Pricey gadget--but a quality item that feels dated but in a good way.
I got this juicer for my wife as she LOVES making lemonade from scratch. This thing is a lifesaver for this activity. She was going to make a larger batch (Like 24 lemons) just before her birthday so I gave it to her early and she loves it. Basically effortless to use and it does a great job. Little mess and it saves her hands a bunch of straining. It is well made and I have no complaints. I would definately buy it again. Only complaint is that it could have a larger base so that a larger bowl or a pyrex measuring cup could fit between it. Other than this small issue I give it a thumbs up.
I just got this juicer and it seems very suitable for the job. Usage and cleaning are very convenient. The design is very simple and elegant. And the unit is light enough to move around. It's not going to be a permanent counter top piece since it's very big. Looks like it would last for a while.
Tips for use: Start with your hand fully extended when you are standing in front of the juicer, if you stand closer the movement will be more difficult to execute. Apply slow and steady pressure on the lever from start to the end of the movement, stopping mid motion is also ok if you start again slowly. That is much preferred to abrupt high-pressure movements. If you are applying to much pressure when the orange is fully quizzed, there would be a strange noise when the skin of the fruit is starting to get juiced and you can see some drops from the oil in the skin, better stop before that.
One problem I found with it is that you can potentially cause damage if you use it without an orange. Pressing it empty would easily break the internal parts.
Regarding Amazon service, they were taking two months to ship the unit, and changed the shipping dates several times after promising a shipping date. I canceled the order and ordered from another company who would match their price 115$ with free shipping.
I have an orange tree and have been looking for a good manual juicer. I read the reviews on the Hamilton Beach 932 and decided it was the one for me. One of the better choices I have made. Easy to use and easy to clean. Love it
