I like this juicer for home cooking -- when a recipe calls for a cup of lemon juice or orange juice, this does the job well and doesn't take up a lot of counter space (I put it in a drawer when I'm not using it).

If you want to crank out large quantities of juice for drinking, there may be better (and more expensive) choices out there.

"49 Lemons, Then It Broke" 2005-05-21

I used this juicer 1.6 times. I squeezed a total of 49 lemons before it shed a plastic tooth from a plastic gear needed for clockwise rotation. Two lemons later it shed a tooth used for counter clockwise rotation. I unplugged it and tried to use it as a manual juicer for a couple of lemons, but it doesn't work very well in manual mode, so I reluctantly tossed it in the trash.

Even when it was new, the juicing mechanism seemed fragile and the tiny motor was too weak, so the squeezing was slow. Plan on two minutes to squeeze a lemon (two halves). But I guess the motor was powerful enough to quickly strip the teeth off the plastic gears.

It's a shame, because the plastic bowl and other large plastic parts were very nicely designed and nicely made. If Black & Decker put a beefier drive mechanism in there and charged half again as much, they'd have a nice product.

In short, if you only want to juice one citrus fruit, a manual juicer is easier and requires less kitchen storage space. If you want to squeeze more than a few citrus fruits, this juicer won't last very long. I'm not sure there is a good application for a juicer like this. Maybe it would be a good gift for someone you don't really like.

I have a monster KitchenAid stand mixer. I'm going to get the juicer attachment for it. With the heavy duty KitchenAid quality, it'll probably juice a brick.

There are a lot of people who don't necessarily want another large, heavy appliance taking up valuable counter/storage space. Sometimes these same people want fresh-squeezed orange or grapefruit juice to go with their breakfast, but not necessarily every day. This Black and Decker Handy Juicer is made just for the likes of me.

It couldn't be simpler - fit the pointy white juice reamer piece on top of the plastic pitcher, on top of the motor base, then press down your halved citrus or pomegranate. It runs (reasonably)quietly and does its job of grinding the juicy pulp down to the peel with only small effort on the part of an actual human arm.

If you are impressed with a juicer that looks like a stainless steel rocket ship get Cuisinart's version at about three times the price. If you're a dyed in the wool fanatic juice enthusiast that has to have fresh juice every morning for your family and yourself you might consider investing in something more industrial quality, such as Kitchenaid's juicing attachment that goes with their stand mixer. If you want a manual juicer get the Mighty OJ. But if you just need a glass of freshly extracted citrus now and again, without a lot of storage space, effort or investment, the B&D Handy Juicer can't be beat.

"Breaks Easily" 2006-11-19

I bought one of these and it looked pretty sturdy, and I was hoping to get a lot of juice out of my lemons. Well, on lemon number 2, first half, this thing broke at the hinge, completely. I do work out and have a pretty good grip, but I shouldn't be able to break something designed to be squeezed by the human hand. I'm not very strong compared to, say, a professional body builder or football player. I'm just average-Joe strong. I actually saw two people about twice my age (I'm 36), doing at least twice the weight I do on a couple of exercies yesterday--one of whom was a woman. So I'm guessing that there are some grandmas out there that could break one of these without trying. By the way, after my observations yesterday at the gym, I should warn you to not underestimate how strong your grandma is, you may get surprised!

Unless you are have a muscular degeneration disease, don't get one of these. I'm debating taking it back though, because I basically have 2 pretty nice acrylic paper weights for my desk now, each costing only about 6 bucks.

Also, at times I think it fits a little looser and shakes a little more than the original one. It doesn't look like the picture but It does work and I use it. If you only occasionally need to juice a lemon, lime or orange, this is the tool to get. It's compact and yet does the job. If the cost is too high, get a wood version. Most of those other hand held juicers don't get any more of the juice out and make just as big a mess. By that I mean you need to do the operation over a bowl. A nice 1 qt Pyrex mearsuring bowl is perfect as you can pour the juice out when you are done.

If you own a lemon, orange or lime tree and want juice every morning, or if you have tunnel carpel syndrome, or arthritis, skip this tool. But if you are healthy you'll have no trouble at all getting all the juice out.

If you don't want the pulp, run the juice through a hand strainer when you pour it out. I like pulp in my lemonaid and orange juice so this is my prefered tool. And best of all,its inexpensive and it stores easily in the junk drawer and doesn't take up any of my counter space.

I prefer the single gear juicer than the centrifuge kind. If you do not mind cutting up your vege & fruits like me. I like it because it is quiet & does a good job eventhough it only has a 180W motor. It "chews" slowly but thoroughly. I do not mind the low speed. I used to own a Samson but I think the Solostar II does a much better job because it has a longer and heavier auger. I think the single gear juicer does a better job in juicing leafy greens such as wheatgrass than the centrifuge kind. The juicer is heavy which I do not mind as long as it does a good job & runs quiet.

I purchased my Solo Star II in May 2008. I had a couple centrifugal juicers before I purchased the Solo Star II, so I was accustomed to shoving the carrots and other veggies and fruits down the chute quickly and having the juice come out just as fast.

The directions for the Solo Star II specifically say to cut the fruits and veggies you're juicing into small chunks about 1" long. I thought I could just push the carrots and other veggies down slowly, without cutting them into small pieces. It worked at first, but as time went on, the juicer was backing up, and there were chunks of carrots and other veggies in the juice. And my juicing screen cracked. I had it replaced under warranty.

After I got the new juicing screen, all was working as when I first got the juicer. However, shortly thereafter, the same problems started occurring again. Before I called customer support this time, I went back and read the instruction manual one more time. I decided to follow the instructions to the "t" and see if that made a difference. By George it did! The juicer started working flawlessly again. I experimented and tried cutting the carrots into 1 1/2" pieces when juicing. While the juicer didn't back up and there weren't chunks of carrots in the juice, there was more carrot pulp accumulated on the auger and in the juicing screen. When I went back to 1" pieces, again it worked flawlessly with less accumulation of pulp inside the juicer.

There's something to be said for following the directions - exactly. I've had my Solo Star II for a year now and as long as I take the time to follow the directions "exactly," it works flawlessly.

It's quiet. What a change from the previous juicer that sounded like a chainsaw in the kitchen. The only way I have to judge whether it seems to juice better is the dampness of the extruded pulp. My SoloStar II has been plagued by problems. In less than a year, many of the outer parts have broken. The juicing screen ($35.00) has broken three times. When the juicing screens break, it happens before the pulp container is even full. As a result, the auger and juicing screen need to be cleaned constantly within a session. The screen locking cap ($5.80) has also broken. Speaking of the auger, even that cracked ($35.00). Several times, I e-mailed customer service about such issues with no reply. When I called, Tribest Life promptly sent out free replacement parts.

Benefits

When the parts aren't breaking, the SoloStar II works very well. It's simple to assembly and operate. The actual extraction process seems efficient. Cleaning is a breeze since most of the parts rinse under the sink. The only cleaning challenge is the juicing screen. Along these lines, the modified toothbrush that comes with the unit is worthless. I now use a steel auto detailing brush that does a great job. The SoloStar II is visually pleasing and the unit operates at a good volume. I was inspired to purchase the juicer after watching the online video as hosted on the Tribest Life web page. It accompanies the juicer in VHS format. Being a first time juicer, this was extremely helpful.

In conclusion, there are benefits and drawbacks to the SoloStar II. While it may have been a good introduction to the juicing world, I definitely look forward to an upgrade. Talking to juicers (people who juice, not the machines;), it seems that you really need to spend around $350.00-$400.00 before getting a quality juicer. Should you decide to purchase the SoloStar II, make certain that you send in the warranty/registration card. That was essential in getting parts replaced at no charge.

Not a well-designed juicer, and not a friendly seller. I had to re-sell this product on ebay (for much less than I paid for it) because the seller would not accept my return of their juicer. How can you tell if an orange juicer works to your satisfaction if you can't try it? The second I unpacked it and used it once it was considerred "used" and non-returnable. This orange juice press probably does exert tremendous pressure, but my experience was that it did not press the orange juice half in the right place. The bottom half of each slice was not squeezed, and remained filled with juice. It was quick, but not thorough.

This item attaches to the first of the two accessory outlets on the top of the DSM7 mixer towards the back. It's incredibly easy to attach and has no sharp edges, so anyone over the age of 6 or so should have no problems with it.

Since this sits on top of the mixer, you will need space above the mixer to be able to use it. If you have the space, and can reach it, this is a great attachment.

It consists of just 4 parts which are designed to work well and keep your kitchen clean.

I enjoy the bounty of my friends' grapefruit trees, and this juicer works very well for grapefruit as well as smaller citrus fruits. (I have had issues in the past with grapefruits being too large for some juicers.)

Cleanup is very easy, everything is designed to work efficiently and clean up quickly.

Apologies for that lame title. I am, however, glad I got this attachment. Whether you have a high-yield orange tree or whether you get your juice oranges from the farmers' market, or Costco or wherever, this is an excellent purchase for your DeLonghi mixer.

Why?

- Unlike some standalone citrus juicers, you have the awesome power of the DSM-7 turning that juicing cone. Nothing slows it down.

- I was worried about leakage on to the mixer. No such thing. I went berserk on the first day and liquefied 38-40 oranges and produced over half a gallon of juice. I don't even have to wipe a drop off the mixer.

- I was worried about the height, since I need my manual juicer low enough so I can comfortably press the orange half. The DSM-7 sticks the juice cone way high up. But the cone design and rotation speed require very little pressure so I don't need the lower position.

- The collecting bowl can hold 600ml. Comfortably, three glasses of juice for most. Or two really big glasses. I like that.

- The metal strainer design is nice because it seems to hold the nasty pulp behind and let only some of the good, non-bitter pulp and sacs go into the collector so the juice has excellent body and texture. No seeds get through at all.

- One of the things that few manufacturers think of refining is the pouring design. DeLonghi (Kenwood) isn't one of those. The juice pours out clean, without trickling down the sides of the collector or escaping down the center hole.

- The juice cone has a nice shape that is smooth and doesn't tear up the orange from the inside. Leaves a clean inside where the stringy pulp looks neatly ironed back. I've used a lot of juice cones, both manual and powered, and this one is really well designed. Transparent hard glass-like plastic that's easy to clean.

- Assembly and disassembly is neat, fast, clean. As is cleaning. There are no sharp inside corners or areas that can accumulate dirt. Everything is smooth and flowing, and the see-through cone lets you make sure nothing stayed inside after washing.

- My six-year old was able to juice 12 orange halves by himself. It's that easy and that safe (do keep watch if you are going to let your kids use your stand mixer though). He was also able to attach the juicer on the mixer

- If you like more body in your juice (like Grovestand minus the awful taste of carton juice) just run the delonghi's spatula gently over the collected pulp in the strainer.

- The collecting cup is graduated so you can see 200, 400, 600 ml levels, probably good to read one, two or three glasses of juice. Even if you exceed 600ml, the design is very forgiving and you won't have that extra orange half make the deep collecting cup overflow.

I love the design. It is so well thought out - the size, the materials, shape, compatibility, ease of cleaning. I was a bit skeptical and considered buying a standalone juicer. But I'm glad I got this one. The only fault is that you need a DSM-7 or DSM-5 to use it. Not going to cost it any stars.

I just received this attachment for my DSM7 Exclusivo mixer, and I love it! I used to own a separate juicer, but it did not have the power or speed that this accessory has.

Because the pulp is ejected, you can keep juicing without having to worry about emptying a bin partway through a project.

Yes, this attachment sits up on top of the back of the mixer, so you wind up using the system turned around, but it is easy to attach and use. All parts lock into place smoothly and easily.

You will want to have a container right up under the waste spout, and doing so might mean that you may need something to place your container on top of to get it high enough. I started with a bowl resting on top of a pot, until I realized that I had a pitcher that was the perfect size to fit directly under the waste chute.

The juice also comes out at a fairly high level off the counter, but I simply placed my glass on an overturned pot and it was fine.

Like all juicers, there is a fine-mesh screen which takes some care to clean. I can't say that cleanup is better than my old juicer, but it certainly isn't any worse!

I have seen the juicer effortlessly and quickly reduce 5 pounds of carrots to a couple of glasses of juice and pulp in just a couple of minutes. I am very pleased.

Basically this works, but poorly. The extracting chute gets pulp all over the place, including dripping on the mixer itself. Not to mention that this is a pain to clean, and it doesn't do a very good job of juicing.

The shipping costs certainly are steep, I concur with another reviewer. But the quality of the product is top-notch. And since I couldn't find it locally, and I needed one, I jumped off the bridge and purchased it, along with an equally excellent brush for mushrooms (with much softer bristles, of course).

This brush has just the right texture and strength of bristles to thoroughly clean a potato while at the same time treating it with care. It does not damage the surface in any way.

It is attractive with beige colored bristles, a brown casing, and a faux marble lid. It's small and easily handled, and rinses out well.

Considering that I ordered the mushroom brush as well (equally good by the way, with firm but softer rust colored bristles just right for cleaning mushrooms), the two items equalled $11.84. The shipping/handling costs equalled $13.60, for a total cost of $25.44. Since I will be using these for a long time, it is worth it to me because they are top quality products. It was sent FedEx ground standard.

I don't think one could go wrong with any of the Clipper brushes. But the shipping costs do make one wince.

I would highly reccomend against purchasing the Angel Juicer. Although it is stainless steel, the twin gears are too close and cause stainless steel metal shavings in your juice. When I called and asked the manufacturer about this and wanted a refund, they basically told me I was out of luck. The juicer tends to clog alot because it doesnt let the pulp out that efficiently. I would look towards other twin gear machines if that is the style you want. Most twin gear machines are good at leafy greens, but not that efficient at juicing wheatgrass as single auger style machines.

I really like this machine. i used the HECK out of it. It is fast, easy to clean, and the two speed function is nice. The price is a nice place to start juicing. I like the wide mouth for apples and larger veggies. it is great for small juicing.

It is not great for more juice than about 20 oz without cleaning. Many juice fasts call for about 30 oz of juice. It gets clogged and pulpy very fast. I sometimes have to run the pulp in to the machine again. The price is ok but the Sharper Image juicer is about $75 and it has the same functionality with a little less of a motor. I use this product a lot for 3 months - about 2 times a day. I have now upgraded to a champion commercial juicer for about $250. The Champion was recommended before I got this juicer.

Not a bad starter juicer. Maybe try to pay the money and get a better model.

I have had this wooden citrus juicer for many years now. It works just great with little or no effort. No moveing parts to break and very easy to clean. I have had other hand juicers but find that I always reach for this one. Try it. I think you will agree.

Not a bad citrus reamer. Previous reviewer is apparently a retard. Buy the OXO instead.

This wooden rolling pin does not roll as other rolling pins I am use to. Whenever I use it, it just does not roll and spin. I will not puchase my next rolling pin from Amazon because I might be presented with the same problem which will call for me to pay another shipping and handling fee.

I bought this juicer at a local supermarket for $7. The first time I used the juicer it snapped. This product is not worth it, buy a metal one or get one that you use with a bowl.

I purchased the acrylic lime squeezer at the local supermarket for $3.99 and it broke after a few uses. So I returned it and got a replacement which broke the second time I used it. If you squeeze to hard or too fast, the acrylic breaks by the hinge. Metal is definitely the way to go with lemon/lime squeezers. However, keep it clean and dry immediately after use, or the paint coating can eventually peel away as mine did.

I love this lemon squeezer. It is durable and easy, even fun. Cut lemons into 2 or 4 pieces and squeeze them. So convenient and useful. I use several lemons a day now. If without it, never~~. It is hassle free. And you must avoid metal utensils when you cook.

I bought the lime squeezer, and it snapped in half the 2nd time I used it. uggghhhhh, going with metal this time

I own a medium sized Ra Chand juicer, the popular model J210. Although the fit and finish of the Ra Chand juicer is somewhat crude, it makes up for it in brute strength and straightforward design. It works excellent for limes, lemons, and small to medium sized oranges and it will last a lifetime, even with daily use. The problem with the J210 is that it does not juice large oranges and grapefruits very well. I needed a larger juicer because I have a grapefruit tree and an orange tree that produce larger than average fruit. I decided against the Ra Chand J500 because they were more expensive than the OrangeX juicer, and the reviews of the OrangeX juicer were for the most part favorable--most of the complaints were for paint chips (doesn't appear to be a problem here) and slow delivery (also not a problem). I was disappointed when my OrangeX large commercial juicer arrived because the top cone and lower "bowl" assembly of the juicer, where the fruit fits, is no larger than the Ra Chand medium sized J210 juicer. In fact, it appears to be smaller than the Ra Chand medium sized juicer. Also, they are thin stamped stainless steel where on the Ra Chand juicer they are polished cast aluminum. That being said, the OrangeX juicer is heavy duty and fairly well built. I have no doubt it will work fine for limes, lemons, and small to medium oranges, and that it too will last a lifetime. However, now I have two juicers that will do the same thing and I still have no juicer for larger grapefruits, unless I settle for squeezing some of the grapefruit and having the edge squirt all over the edge. In retrospect, I wish I had looked at the Ra Chand J500 and, given that it is truly larger than the J210, spent the extra $50 to get something that would not only work for larger fruit, but medium and smaller fruit as well.

We did a lot of research for a new juicer since we had noticed that many models out there are either 'huge' or dont have great juicing power. A couple of criteria we had included: size, juicing abilities, and value for money. This omega model came out on all three categories.

We have now used it for over a year, the juicing is excellent as you can see on how dry the pulp is; the cleaning is relatively easy and dont have so many huge parts to it as in other machinese we have seen; and it is so compact that it is easy to store. Also, with the pulp falling out to an external holder, you can juice to your heart content without having to dismantle the machine to remove the pulp.

Our favorite is apple and carrot juice and this machine has helped up to cleanse our body that we are literally glowing with health.

This model is the best for us and for anyone looking for a good compact juicer. I would stray too far from an omega model. For now, we are certainly going to stick to this model.

My odyssey to find the best travel juicer continues. As other reviews of mine have stated, I've been juicing three decades, with an Acme and a Champion, both of about 20 years' service, being my main juicers.

However, I do travel several states once or twice per month. I tend to visit hospitals in small areas, certainly nowhere near juice bars. I always miss my juice when gone. I decided last year to start taking my juicing on the road. Believe me, you don't want to haul an Acme or Champion! When I was in my twenties, it's hard to believe I actually strapped that Champion on the back of my bicycle and went touring with it! Well, I'm middle aged now and wiser.

I started out with the L'Equip Mini. Didn't work for me, parts fiddly though performance was good. Went through a Kenwood 2-speed, really fell down on leafy greens, so gave it away to a carrot and fruit juicer who still loves it. A while back I bought a $30 Black & Decker at my local Wal-Mart. Read my review, it is a fine little juicer, though of course not in the class of much more expensive machines. Plus, I can't testify re its durability, though it's certainly done well for me.

I admit I've been happy with my juicers so I don't look at them often. I was intrigued to find Omega was making a compact juicer--this O2. It looked so cute sitting next to veggies in all the photos. I don't live near a large city so I had to buy online. I paid $84 with free shipping on a special.

Those shopping will notice two different types of tops on this model. Apparently when it was first introduced it had the white top. The one I bought has the newer, smoked plastic top. Why anyone would want to watch pulp fly out of the machine I can't say. Rather like watching a washing machine. I think, from what I can tell, the tops are identical, unlike the unfortunate Omega 4000 with its disastrous first series top. The other thing the photos online don't show is the large pulp collector hiding behind the juicer.

Being a pulp ejector, this juicer has the typical slanting basket. What isn't typical, and I'm impressed, is that the cutting wheel is separate from the basket. With a lot of juicing the cutting blades get dull and need replacement, possibly as often as every 1-2 years with daily juicing. The cutting wheel is quite substantial for this size machine, but nowhere near as heavy as the boat anchor wheel in the Acme. My concern with these lightweight machines is the basket becoming unbalanced with certain produce, particularly leafy greens.

Assembly is quite simple and much more intuitive than the high-fashion L'Equip. The juicer is surprisingly light because the base (where the nameplate is) is plastic rather than the metal of larger juicers. No issue for me, it seems quite substantial plastic and it holds the weight down. The stainless steel bowl with spout mounts on the base; there's a white plastic ring that fits on top of that. Next, drop the basket in and then the cutting blade. There is a nut that screws the basket and blade down finger-tight. The top then fits on, secured with a grasping handle on each side. The large pulp container slides easily behind and is contoured to the cylindrical body. Like so many others, if I have the little grocery store bags I line the container so that I can just pitch the bag. This juicer is quieter than my Acme, but certainly not as quiet as the Champion. It's a fairly high-pitched motor, but not irritating; it does sound like a quieter blender on high.

I'll admit I've only used this juicer a couple-dozen times, but after 30 years and a pile of juicers, I think I'm pretty good at evaluating. When I see people cramming produce into one of these little juicers with force, it's no wonder they wear out so quickly! If you want to put your weight into a centrifugal juicer, get one of the big Acme, Omega or Moline models; they can take it, even if they don't like it. I never juice fruit in a vegetable juicer, other than apples and pears occasionally. These are juiced very well in this juicer. My mainstay choices are carrots, beets, celery, parsley and radishes, with a rotation of whatever leafy greens are in the fridge. I buy spinach, collards, mustard greens, dark green lettuce, kale, broccoli, etc. We all should know that centrifugal juicers of any size and brand are not optimal for leafy greens; they need masticating pressure. However, when rolled into golfball-sized portions, they do juice decently in this little juicer. Run a cleaning carrot or radish before and after parts of leafy greens and you'll get a decent yield with this juicer.

Cleanup is no easier or harder than a hundred other centrifugal pulp ejectors. I use a little vegetable brush from the grocery store to make a quick pass around the inside and outside of the basket and it's clean. All the other parts rinse easily in the sink. I must admit I'm confounded by newbies whining about cleaning their juicers. Would they rather scrub a pan with baked-on lasagna? Or how about cleaning a grill with one of those wire brushes? Or maybe they've never cooked. Compared to cooking juicer cleanup is a breeze.

Two final notes: 1) be very careful with that cutting wheel! I sliced my thumb open on my first batch with this juicer. The nut holding and aligning the wheel and basket is close to the blades on the wheel, I am so used to the big Acme that I injured myself. This isn't a criticism of the machine, it's a criticism of the operator. 2) Though this is Omega's compact model, it appears to be fully 3/4 the size of my big Acme. Once again, you don't see the pulp container. Still easily packed in a gym bag.

In summary, a fine little juicer, ergonomic and capable. Of course, only time and more use will reveal the durability. However, I don't see any cheapie plastic to break or little fiddly parts. Recommended and a good buy, particularly for those new to the practice. It is worth the extra seventy or so Dollars over the B/D.

This is a excellent juicer, its easy to use & clean and best of all its made with pride in the USA.

I just received my juicer - just what I needed for my household! Works great - I got a glass of carrot/orange juice in about 5 minutes. It took another 7 minutes to clean it and such - which is not bad at all! The pulp is dry, and the cleanup can be reduced by covering the pulp receptacle with a plastic bag - which I will do in the future. For the price, great juicer, do not hesitate and get it if you are not going to juice for a large family.
